| | | The Savannah Tour of Homes and Gardens is a partnership of the Women of Christ Church and the Historic Savannah Foundation.
Christ Church, founded in 1733 by General James Oglethorpe, is the mother church of Georgia. For more than 275 years, Christ Church has conducted worship services at its historic site on Johnson Square. The first Tour of Homes and Gardens was held in 1935. In 1976, Historic Savannah Foundation joined Christ Church as a partner. For more information about Christ Church, visit their website.
The Historic Savannah Foundation was formed in 1955 to preserve and protect Savannah’s colonial town plan and significant architectural buildings. Since its founding, the organization has been the catalyst for the restoration for more than 1,200 buildings and its efforts are recognized internationally. For more information about Historic Savannah Foundation, visit their website. Net proceeds of the Tour are shared by the Tour partners. In recent years the Women of Christ Church share has supported a variety of community organizations providing for the homeless (food, clothing and life-skills counseling); prison ministry; low-income housing and health services; mental and spiritual wellness; education and after school programs for pre-school, youth and teens; mothers in crisis pregnancies; mission and emergency outreach. Historic Savannah Foundation’s share has supported educational activities, preservation month, and preservation training seminars for youth.
