Responsible for many of Savannah’s grand civic buildings, Hyman Wallace Witcover is probably most renowned as the architect of Savannah’s gold-domed City Hall. An active Free Mason, Witcover also designed the Scottish Rite Temple, built in 1913. Join Architectural Historian, Dr. Daves Rossell, as he explores Witcover’s architectural works discussing style, building materials, symbolism and relationship to the period. Beginning at the Scottish Rite Temple and ending at City Hall, the group will have access to various spaces in both buildings and will view Witcover’s drawings for City Hall – plans, elevations, interior design plans for all the offices, and detail drawings.

This evening, step back into 19th century Savannah. Three museums will feature costumed interpreters, hors d' oeuvres and drinks. At the 1820 Isaiah Davenport House visitors will sample and learn the social graces and importance of Madeira wine tradition. The rescue of this house in 1955 from demolition was the catalyst for the formation of Historic Savannah Foundation. At the Birthplace of Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of America, guests will experience activities that Juliette's family would have enjoyed during the Victorian era in Savannah. The Andrew Low House, designed by famous architect John Norris, has welcomed such historic figures as General Robert E. Lee. Period characters will welcome and treat you to one of America's finest examples of Regency style domestic architecture.
